Pop and Rnb singer Tkay is a 22 year old singer based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The Zimbabwean descent songstress loves singing and making music. “I sing and make music because it makes me feel self-empowered and on top of the world” said Tkay.
I have been singing since age 9. I started singing in my church choir and joined my school’s choir as well. In high school, I did a lot of musical theatre programs and in my last year of high school, I was appointed as the Head Leader of the Glee Club Committee, I have always been a leader when it comes to singing and music.
The first memory that comes to mind when I think about what inspired my love to be in the music industry, is when I sang for the first time at my school talent show when I was 9 years old. I ended up winning the talent show with my singing and I won the first-place prize and medal. The feeling of being on stage and showcasing my talent to the world altered my brain chemistry in such an enchanting way and, I have not been the same since that amazing day.
That was the moment I realized that my ability to sing and write songs is a gift from God and my gift touches people’s hearts. I have been in the music industry for 2 years now and the journey has been amazing so far. I have been growing my fan base and putting myself out there more and more each day.
I have strengthened my song-writing abilities and my vocals as well. I have also gained over 50K total views on all my Instagram reels and I only have 5 reels in total and I started uploading my music reels in October 2023. I have recently started my YouTube channel and, I am excited to post more content and get more engagement on all of my social media platforms.
My journey is a testament to trusting in God and how he will continue to bless me. I am excited to see all of the blessings that unfold in my music career and I cannot wait to look back at this magazine article one day as a testimony of the grace and blessings God has poured upon my life. Great things are on the way for sure!
I want to continue to use my singing gift to inspire people and to make them feel empowered and valued. I know that singing and music are my destiny and that this is just the beginning of my story and my musical journey.
Tell us about your latest single ” So Close” and what inspired the song?
My latest single, “So Close” is a song I wrote and hold close to my heart. The song talks about wearing your heart on your sleeves and the enchanting power of love. It also talks about embracing vulnerability and letting the magic of love guide you. In 2022, when I wrote this song, I was at a place in my life where I was ready for a divine shift in how I approach the world.
Fast forward 2 years later, I was finally ready to showcase my talent and to reach for the moon and set for the stars. I finally released my single, “So Close” on August 3, 2024, and the feedback has been so heart warming and incredible. People from all around the world have reached out to me to express their love for my song and my artistry. My song is streaming on spotify, apple music and YouTube.
The message I would like to give to my audience is to always believe in yourself! I want to inspire my audience and my fans to know that there is no such thing as an invalid dream. I aspire to showcase my vulnerability and courage through my music. My music stands for being vulnerable and putting yourself out there no matter what. It’s always been more than just music to me.
When I sing, I showcase my heart to my audience. I let people see how I am human and even though I am not perfect I try my best every single day and I give it my all when it comes to my music. My goal is for my singing and my music to always resonate with my fans and to show them that there is power in vulnerability and in being yourself. My music also showcases the importance of self-love and self-empowerment.
Share with us some of your future aspirations within the industry?
I aspire to release more music and to one day have my own album which I publish to the whole world. I believe and know that I will also grow my audience, immensely, on a global scale. I want to be able to bring something unique to the music industry.
I believe that my sound is different and that my voice is unique and I want to continue showcasing that to the world. I aspire to help people acknowledge their worth through my music and I want to be an inspiration to every individual out there who hears my music that they are capable of achieving their hopes, dreams, and aspirations. I am excited for the future and I know that I am destined for greatness.
Anything you are currently working on which you would love for our readers to know about?
I am currently working on a lot of phenomenal and exciting projects, I have been working on my 2nd song and it will be released before the year ends.
