R&B artist and songwriter LAVAL pronounced Luh- Val, was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and currently resides in Atlanta GA. My love for music began the first time I heard Whitney Houston on the radio, it was the song “Saving all my love” and I was blown away by her voice & beauty.
My journey in music began when I was 18 years old, I wrote my first song and it was the first time I had travelled out of my hometown to Ypsilanti, Michigan. I have been writing and recording music ever since, am a songwriter as well and my writing process is moved when God gives me the words to say. I don’t just write because I know how, I am always lead by what he gives me.
Tell us about your latest single I LOVE YOU, what inspired the song?
I love you was inspired by someone who has been an amazing blessing in my life. Someone who accepts me the way that I am, someone who truly loves and supports me and someone I am thankful to God for bringing into my life and allowing me to share space and time with them. It feels like such a gift to have someone so wonderful that I can be my complete self with. That was the inspiration behind the song and I hope my listeners will appreciate it.
My biggest highlight to date is having over 200,000 streams and more than 25,000 visual views for the song everything which was written by myself and was the first record that I released which the listeners really engaged with, and that means a lot to me because I wrote it from my heart and, I had no promotion, no real fan base, and no idea how people would receive it, to some those numbers are low, but to me, they have surpassed my expectations so for that I am thankful.
What keeps me motivated is knowing that my daughter is watching and learning from me, my goal is to teach her that whatever it is you are passionate about and know you were sent on earth to do, purse it and never give up no matter how challenging it may be because if it is truly destiny it will manifest. It is very important that she sees persistence, resilience and dedication to adopt these qualities and apply them in her life.
Share with us some of your future aspirations within the industry?
I used to say that I wanted to be signed to a major record label like most artist who dream of a career in music. Now, with all the opportunities I’ve had as an independent artist my desires are geared more towards reaching the masses without having to become someone I’m not. I want my audience to grow organically and know the real me, and know that my music is truly my experiences and I hope that in sharing that part of myself it will inspire people to love, give hope, and just make you feel good when you engage in it.
