George Yakubu Dafei, better known by the stage name Mellajones, is a Nigerian rapper, record producer and sound engineer, rooted in soulful Hip Hop and Afrobeats.
I started music at an early age, when my big brother used to play records of NWA, 2pac, Nas etc. However, I was not serious about it until my graduation from college when I had time to focus more on it and develop my craft. I am majorly into soulful Hip Hop and Afrobeats.
Tell us about your latest album “Triigers&Anixiety” what inspired the album and what do you want your audience to take away from this project?
“TriiGers&Anxiety” is an evocative collection that captures the raw essence of emotional turbulence through a blend of haunting melodies, ethereal vocals, and powerful beats. Each track on the album is a journey through the depths of human psyche, confronting fears and embracing vulnerability.
“Triggers&Anxiety” is more than just music; it’s a cathartic experience that resonates with the complexities of modern life. Perfect for introspective moments and late-night listening, this album is a testament to Echo Realm’s ability to translate deep emotions into sonic masterpieces.
It’s a great body of work, I am currently promoting the album and touring will commence immediately, city to city, town to town, get ready cause we about to have a great summer!
Thus far I have collaborated more with my brother in the US “S I”, MaryJane Dawn, Jakim, all amazing artists, it was a beautiful experience exploring their sound and fusing it into mine to birth a mind blowing outcome.
The biggest misconception about the genre am in is the false idea people used to have about Hip Hop being a genre that promotes gang banging and drugs, I see music as a tool, and each tool can be used for the greater good or evil. As for handling critics I self-analyze and don’t take anything to heart, we all feel different about things, and that might be how they feel in that moment, but I also have to be expressive about my feelings too since music is the expression of the soul
Some of my highlights include my numbers on spotify spiking up gradually , having released the album and I’m already at 50k on spotify and my Tiktok is currently going insane for the sound. The end goal to it all is to leave a lasting imprint.
