Osataene Noma-Owens, known professionally as Taene, is a 23-year-old Nigerian Afro-fusion artist who’s turning heads with her versatile sound and confident energy. Born in Ibadan and raised in Abuja, Taene moved to Canada in 2018 to pursue her education, earning a degree in Psychology from the University of Alberta. But music has always been at the heart of her journey.
“I’ve been singing my whole life,” she shares. “I was in the choir and engaged in as many musical activities as I could, but I always knew I wanted more.”
Taene’s music is a fusion of soul, R&B, pop, trap, and rap. Her debut EP, “See You At The Top,” reflects a spectrum of themes, confidence, love, independence, pain, romance, and everything in between. “I wanted a body of work that had a little bit of everything to introduce myself properly to the world,” she says. “I’m headed to the top, so that inspired my EP.”
From the EP “BAK2BAK is my personal anthem,” Taene explains. “I’m blessed to write and compose music easily, so the bangers will never end. It’s also special because my manager, Fusi, helped compose it to make it perfect.”
The track sparked a viral dance challenge, choreographed spontaneously by his friend Kofi. “We all fell in love with it instantly, and that was the start of the challenge,” Taene recalls.
Taene’s approach to music is impulsive and instinctive. She freestyles over beats she loves and records the same day to capture the raw emotion of the moment. “I surround myself with people who love and support me, and I constantly try new things. Storytelling is a huge part of my music, and I draw inspiration from experiences, movies, and life around me.”
A recent EP listening party left Taene emotional, surrounded by fans, family messages, and meaningful surprises from her manager. “It was beautiful,” she says. “People showed up for me, bought my merch, and celebrated this milestone with me.”
Looking ahead, Taene has big dreams: collaborations with artists he admires, sold-out tours, brand partnerships, and eventually a Grammy or notable award. “And look hot while doing it all,” she adds with a grin.
With her unique blend of Afro-fusion sounds, unapologetic confidence, and dedication to storytelling, Taene is an artist on the rise, truly living up to the name of her EP: “See You At The Top.”
