At just 23 years old, Canadian-based artist Novaea (born Justin in Trinidad and Tobago) is carving out a unique space in the world of R&B and soul. Music has always been at the heart of who Novaea is, a safe space, a source of healing, and a vessel for storytelling. “It’s how I express truth, love, and my story,” Novaea says.
Growing up in Trinidad and Tobago, Novaea was surrounded by rhythm, culture, and soulful storytelling. Those Caribbean roots continue to echo in her artistry today, influencing not only her sound but the depth of emotion woven into each lyric. “That mix of culture, resilience, and passion lives in my songs and keeps me grounded,” she reflects.
For Novaea, music wasn’t just a dream, it was a necessity. It became a way to process life’s highs and lows, and ultimately, a way to make others feel seen. Inspired by icons such as Céline Dion, Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton, and Adele, as well as fresh voices like Mariah the Scientist, she has developed a multidimensional style. Rooted in R&B and soul, her music blends pop influences with subtle Caribbean undertones, resulting in a sound that is both authentic and timeless.
Her latest release, OPTIONS, is a testament to both vulnerability and strength. Born from personal experience, the song captures the pain of realizing you are someone’s second choice,,and the power of choosing yourself instead. “It’s about the courage it takes to walk away because you know your worth,” Novaea explains. The track is more than a ballad of heartbreak; it’s an anthem of empowerment.
Every song Novaea writes carries a message of love, resilience, and truth. Her mission is to create music that mirrors the human experience, whether listeners are celebrating, healing, or navigating the spaces in between. “Authenticity is the non-negotiable,” she says of her creative process, which often begins with raw emotion before evolving into polished lyrics and melodies.
Novaea is currently working on new singles and a project that explores love, growth, and self-discovery. “Each song shows a different side of me,” she shares, teasing the depth and range her audience can expect. Looking ahead, she envisions building a global career that goes beyond music, delving into publishing, royalties, and brand building, all while staying true to the artistry that defines her.
For Novaea, the most rewarding part of her journey has been the connection with her fans. Whether through live shows, social media, or heartfelt messages, their support fuels her artistry. One moment stands out above all: hearing an audience sing her lyrics back to her for the very first time. “That connection, heart to heart, reminded me why I started and why I’ll never stop.”
With her soulful voice, honest storytelling, and unwavering authenticity, Novaea is more than an artist to watch, she is a voice for a generation learning to embrace love, resilience, and truth in all their forms.
