In the world of beauty, few names carry the weight of purpose and passion quite like Jamesia Kyunia. With over 16 years of experience in the hair industry, Jamesia’s story is one of grit, grace, and undeniable vision, a journey that started in school bathroom salons and blossomed into a full-scale beauty empire.
“As a child, I found so much joy in making others feel beautiful,” she recalls. What began as doll-styling sessions and impromptu hair appointments between school periods soon evolved into a career, one shaped by both talent and tenacity. After beauty school, Jamesia worked in two of Minnesota’s top salons, gaining not only technical expertise but also a deeper understanding of what it means to create lasting value in the beauty space.
Then came the pandemic, a period of uncertainty that, for Jamesia, became the catalyst for reinvention. She took a leap of faith and opened her own salon studio, eventually expanding her business model to include multiple income streams under one empowering vision. “My true passion lies in helping others in the beauty industry succeed,” she says. And that passion birthed The Secret to Building an Empire, her debut e-book, now available on Amazon.
More than just a how-to guide, the book is a blueprint for building with intention. It draws from her own journey highlighting the missteps, the pivots, and the powerful revelations that now define her leadership style. From branding to mindset, from financial literacy to confidence-building, the book lays it all out with candor and clarity.
“I’ve always dreamed of becoming a writer,” she shares, “but more than that, I wanted to empower others and make a real impact.” The result is a deeply personal and practical guide that speaks directly to aspiring beauty entrepreneurs, those with the vision but not always the tools or roadmap. “You don’t have to sit around wondering what to do next. This e-book provides a clear, step-by-step guide.”
Her writing reflects her lived wisdom. She warns against common pitfalls, like overextending yourself, failing to niche down, or neglecting continuous education and offers tangible strategies to avoid them. Most importantly, Jamesia centers her message on mindset. “You can have the perfect plan, but without execution, it’s all wasted potential,” she says.
For Jamesia, building an empire isn’t just about financial freedom, it’s about legacy. It’s about teaching, guiding, and opening doors for the next generation of beauty bosses. Her webinar, The Hidden Steps to Launch Your Beauty Business, was an extension of this mission. It served as an introduction to her soon-to-launch 8-week coaching program, where she’ll guide participants through advanced techniques, foundational strategy, and the keys to lasting growth.
Jamesia is also relaunching her luxury hair brand, J’mesia K. Hair Wigs & Extensions, while preparing to open her Beauty Academy, which will offer in-depth digital and hands-on professional training. But behind all the business moves lies a woman driven by something greater. “My greatest guide has been God,” she says. “His presence, direction, and grace have led me every step of the way.”
That grace is evident in how she speaks of her daughters, who now look at her with pride, and in how she views fear, not as something to avoid, but something to move through. “Do it scared. Do it nervous. But do it anyway.”
Looking ahead, Jamesia wants to be remembered not just as a successful entrepreneur, but as a builder of people. “I want people to say, ‘Jamesia didn’t just build businesses, she built community, and she built a lasting impact.'” And she’s just getting started.
