At his core, Exojay is a dreamer. His bucket list reflects a thirst for exploration, while his nerdy passion for audio, cinematography, art, and fashion demonstrates a mind constantly in motion. “I am very intentional with how I want to present myself and my work,” he explains, “and it just so happens that music has become a medium where I can bridge all of these interests.”
Born in London and raised in a small town in Switzerland, Exojay credits his musical ear to his mother, who filled their home with Erykah Badu, Alicia Keys, and Usher. Teaching himself instruments as a child, he learned to understand song structure and melody early on. His musical taste has always been dynamic, ranging from J. Cole to Smino’s Blkswn and Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange.
His journey into music creation began out of curiosity at age fifteen, when he loaded Garageband on a family computer. “I felt overwhelmingly free, free to make decisions that were both meaningless and the most meaningful in the world to me,” he recalls. Music became the outlet for thoughts too complex for words, and production became his obsession.
“Production was my entry point into sound,” Exojay says. “I get very attached to texture in music, I’m really into smooth keybeds and pads at the moment, reminiscent of 80s and 90s R&B. More times than not, the production leads and the voice follows.” Influenced by artists like Frank Ocean and Dijon, he makes intentional production choices shaped by lyrical content, blending creativity with technical precision.
Exojay doesn’t overthink the message of his songs. “I am more of a creator than a performer,” he admits. “Oftentimes I am just recalling my thoughts and memories from my perspective, and the message usually forms itself in the end.”
The pandemic was a turning point in his creative growth. With human interaction curtailed, boredom allowed him to fully dive into production, giving him a new outlet and shaping his artistic identity.
His single LUSH captures the complexity of youthful love and the nuances of past relationships. Meanwhile, Macbeth holds deep personal meaning, a sonic shift in his work and a timestamp of his awareness and paranoia at a pivotal time in his life.
Looking ahead, Exojay plans to release two new singles that explore different facets of himself. The next track delves into the addictive grasp of toxic relationships, continuing his signature dark, cinematic sound. He is also developing a larger body of work designed as an invitation into his world, both visually and sonically.
Fans can listen to Exojay across digital platforms, with more releases on the horizon. “If you have a digital device, you can find me, not everywhere, but hopefully soon,” he says. Exojay isn’t just creating music; he’s building a bridge between sound, story, and self, offering listeners a glimpse into the intricate and cinematic universe he inhabits.
