Khoisan Gin isn’t just another bottle on the shelf, it’s a journey through history, culture, and personal identity, bottled with care and intention. Born from the vision of Triumph Distillers founder, this gin celebrates the heritage of South Africa’s first people, the Khoisan, while offering a flavour experience unlike any other.
“I could have followed the traditional route and made a London Dry Gin,” the founder reflects, “but I’m not from London, I’m from a small town called George, near Wilderness Beach. I wanted to craft something that speaks about me, my family, and the place I grew up.” The name “Khoisan” itself carries deep significance: a nod to the resilience, joy, and cultural richness of the Khoisan people, while honouring the founder’s own roots, his mother is Griqua from the Northern Cape, and his father Khoikhoi from the Eastern Cape.

Each bottle of Khoisan Gin tells a story, infused with botanicals inspired by the natural remedies of the Khoisan people.
The Classic Virgin:
The brand’s original gin, features honeybush tea and buchu, ingredients traditionally used to soothe coughs and stomach ailments. Its gentle sweetness and floral finish offer a contemporary twist on classic gin.
Dirty Orange:
The brand’s bestseller, combines the Classic Virgin base with vibrant oranges, delivering a bold yet balanced flavour.
Purple Violet Deluxe:
Delights the eye and palate alike, transforming from purple to pink when mixed with tonic.
Pink Flower Jane:
A tribute to the founder’s grandmother, is a delicate floral gin with rose petals and hibiscus, and Uncle Oak Khoi, barrel-aged in ex-whiskey casks, offers a bold, mature character reminiscent of fine whiskey. For those seeking a softer, sweeter option.
Chocoberry Twist Liqueur:
Combines strawberry and chocolate for a dessert-like indulgence.
What sets Khoisan Gin apart, the founder explains, “is that we’re a small-batch distillery that focuses on quality, culture, and experience. We want each sip to be flavourful, approachable, and memorable, something that makes you pause and feel connected.”

The journey from concept to bottle is meticulous. From mashing and fermentation to double distillation, maceration, and infusion with botanicals, every step is carefully monitored to ensure the gin’s unique character shines through. Reverse osmosis water is used for dilution, and resting periods allow the flavours to harmonise before filtration and bottling.
Sustainability is a cornerstone of Khoisan Gin’s production. The distillery repurposes water between batches, harvests rainwater for cooling, and plans to explore using surplus baked goods and beer to reduce waste, proving that responsible production and premium quality can go hand in hand.

Launching Khoisan Gin was far from easy. Financial hurdles, the complex liquor license process, sourcing specialised ingredients, and entering a competitive market all posed significant challenges.
“Money should not stand in your way when pursuing your dream,” the founder says. Persistence, resourcefulness, and creativity were key to turning a vision into reality. Direct-to-consumer sales, social media engagement, and personal outreach helped the brand find its footing and grow steadily, eventually placing Khoisan Gin in 16 stores and counting.

Khoisan Gin is more than alcohol, it’s an experience. “When someone enjoys Khoisan Gin, I want them to taste culture, craftsmanship, and heritage,” the founder explains. The brand’s slogan, ‘Taste the Culture’, reflects this ethos. Whether celebrating with friends, enjoying a quiet weekend, or marking a special occasion, Khoisan Gin enhances moments with authenticity, flavour, and pride.
Looking ahead, the brand plans to expand sustainably, explore new flavour combinations, including gin infused with beer or wine-style creations, and increase accessibility in local and international markets. Through it all, Khoisan Gin remains committed to representing difference, togetherness, and heritage, while delivering a drink that anyone can enjoy.
With every bottle, Khoisan Gin offers a taste of South Africa’s roots, a tribute to resilience, and a reminder that heritage can be celebrated in the most delicious of ways.

What are some of your favorite pairings or cocktail recipe that highlight the distinctiveness of Khoisan Gin which you would like to share with our readers?
One of my favourite things is exploring pairings with our gin. We haven’t yet had the chance to try it with different fine-dining meals, but we are working on that. We recently found a chef who is willing to help us create proper food pairings.
When it comes to cocktail recipes, we’ve tested a few and the results were amazing. We tried an Espresso Martini, and it was incredible. What made it stand out was the minty profile our gin added to the cocktail. We also made a Negroni, but we gave it a twist by infusing it with strawberries. It came out amazing, 10/10. We then tried a Spritz using our Dirty Orange gin, with freshly squeezed naartjie (a South African citrus). That combo was a bomb, especially with Prosecco, it gave real summer vibes.
Lastly, we made an Old Fashioned with our barrel-aged gin. It was something special. The honey and bitterness gave it strong whiskey vibes, while still keeping the smooth gin character
What message or story do you hope Khoisan Gin conveys to its consumers?
I want Khoisan Gin to remind people that it’s okay to be different, and that being original is something to be proud of.
Khoisan Gin is not about following trends or trying to fit in. It’s about celebrating who you are, where you come from, and the journey that shaped you. Every bottle carries a piece of heritage, culture, and craftsmanship, and it’s made to bring people together through a shared experience. I also want the brand to show that you don’t need to be from London or from a big city to create something world-class. A small-town dream from George can still reach the world. At the end of the day, the message is simple: be yourself, stand in your truth, and don’t be afraid to taste life your way.
That’s what “Taste the Culture” truly means to me
