Amapiano music artist Sphephelo Gabela popularly known as Zulukaptain was born and raised in Ladysmith, Limehill. I grew up in a Christian home and I believe in God. My journey in music began when I was at the age of 10 playing the piano at church. I was also part of the school choir which enhanced my love for music. I am a dedicated person who does everything with passion and excellency.
My stage name Zulukaptain came about at a very young age, my mother used to encourage me to be my best everywhere I go and represent my ethnicity.
I am a producer! I make beats for all my songs, and I’m a songwriter as well, song writing is very complex because lyrics are normally inspired by the beats I make, the situations around me and sometimes might be inspired by something am going through in my life. I hope my music brings joy to my audience and when they hear my songs they become happy and forget about all the struggles they may be going through.
I got my first gig through social media, someone had seen my content on ticktok and said they love my work and requested for more songs. After seeing what I do they were so happy and booked me for an event. The performance experience was scary, as it was my first. I had so much doubt that I could stand in front of people and perform but after the performance I was so happy and relieved that I was able to do it with so much superbness. I have since collaborated with Mzu M, and the experience was amazing because I have learned so much from him and he has helped me grow within the industry.
I haven’t experienced any serious challenges thus far, apart from the fact that when you are in the industry you need to be financially capable to promote your work and as for critics, criticism often pushes me to do better in my career. If it is destructive I ignore it and focus on the constructive criticism
